SANTA PAULA BRANCH LINE TRAIL
Ventura, California

Project Background:

This project is funded entirely through Caltrans ATP Cycle 6 and the California Transportation Commission's Solutions for Congested Corridors Program. This project is intended to: fill critical gaps in transportation, reduce Vehicle Miles Traveled, promote safer toutes, connect existing networks and community desinations and improve recreation. It is just one segment of VCTC's Santa Paula Branch Line, stretching from Piru through Fillmore and Santa Paula to Ventura. The railroad Right-Of-Way is owned by VCTC and leased by Sierra Northern Railway.

Design:
The Ventura portion of the Santa Paula Branch Line Trail is a 4 mile long class I and IV multi modal trail connecting Montalvo (near the East Ventura Metrolink Station) to Saticoy (specifically the old Saticoy Depot railroad station). The trail will feature solar lights, trash receptacles, water fill stations, exercise stations, benches, shade trees and drought tolerant plantings. It is projected to be completed by mid 2027. Special safety features are being incorporated at road crossings to ensure bike and pedestrian safety.
